Ch. 4: Kitchen work area and Interior Cabin of the SquareDrop Camper

At the end of the bed frame we ran some 1 x 2 inch trim across the bottom, top, and sides, to hold the back wall which is made up of  half inch birch plywood; the same material on the front and side walls.  Due to the fact that the swing-gate door opening is smaller than the back wall area, the birch plywood wall is made up of 2 pieces.  We chose to make them equal in width; butting directly in the middle.  You could have one piece much bigger than the other, depending on where you want the seem.  The containers on the inside and outside were offset by a quarter of an inch to hide the seem.  Both containers styles were purchased at IKEA.  They have a wide selection of containers, the real problem is settling on the one that best fits your needs.  Go into the store with your sizes and a rough idea of what is to be stored, to assist you in making the proper selection.

The sink and preparation area is 1 x 16 shelving material with a smaller 1 x 8 pine on above.  Here they are in their travel position folded down as they are hinged at the back on a 1 x 3 inch piece of oak.
The chains above are the used to hold the two shelves up during use.

Cooking is performed with a one burner Coleman stove using the small propane tank.  The water supply connects to the faucet (that was originally on a fish cleaning table from Cabela's) and the drain directs the grey water into the 5 gallon plastic container.  For boon docking a PVC pipe container is used with faucets at both ends.  Notice the red koozie of the aft faucet.  This will hold 9 gallons of water.

Notice the half inch re-bar coming out of the door jam.  This prevents the door from swinging in the wind.  During travel the re-bar is pushed up into the door jam and held in place with a barrel-bolt gate latch.  We have two quick up Coleman canopy covers to cover the trailer.  These covers are also accompanied by side curtains if we want more privacy or to keep the wind and weather out.

This should give you an overview of what can be done with a small cargo trailer, some light power tools, easy to gather building supplies, and a little help from Amazon.

Next blog will give a brief overview of the electrical AC and DC layout.
